Megapress in building services – simple connection of old and new
Thick-walled steel pipes are particularly common in old buildings and therefore in refurbishment projects as well. The robust pipes are often in good condition and can be reused. However, until now, the process of connecting a new boiler usually called for complex adapters or welding. The installation process was sometimes delayed by the residual water that had to drain out and, in old buildings, welding often resulted in an increased risk of fire. Megapress makes welding superfluous and enables secure and fast connection to existing pipes – even when different dimensions are involved. With the Megapress adapters and reducing sleeves, steel pipes with the special external diameters 38, 44.5 and 57 mm can also be connected without any problems. Despite the special boiler pipe dimensions, the connectors are still installed using the existing Megapress press rings. Consequently, there are no costs for additional tools.
Industrial and plant engineering
As part of its Megapress systems, Viega offers flow-optimised press connectors made of non-alloy 1.0308 steel. These have a zinc-nickel coating to protect them against external corrosion. e.g. as a result of condensation water in cooling systems. The press connectors are available in sizes from ⅜ of an inch to 4 inches and, with their stainless steel compression ring, ensure the load-bearing capacity of the connection. This makes them ideal for industrial and plant engineering contexts. Large dimensions tend to be used for cooling systems in industrial settings. Megapress S XL is ideal for this with its XL dimensions of 2½ to 4 inches, which completely eliminate the need for welding even in large cooling systems.
Sprinkler and fire extinguishing systems
Sprinkler units need to be robust, stable and durable – especially in high-risk buildings, such as industrial and commercial facilities. Given that this requires the use of thick-walled steel pipe, the Megapress system is ideal for this purpose with dimensions ranging from ¾ of an inch to 2 inches. At the same time, it meets the toughest requirements and has FM and VdS certification. This not only certifies them as suitable for fire hazard classes that indicate low and medium fire risks (LH and OH 1-4), but also for those that signify a high fire risk, such as production and storage risks (HHP 1-4 and HHS 1-4). Consequently, Megapress is the perfect alternative to conventional groove/coupling systems or thread technology.
Compressed air systems and technical gases
Steel pipes are also frequently used in compressed air systems and piping networks for technical gases such as nitrogen. The cold press connection technology facilitates installation in the ceiling area of industrial buildings and enables convenient T-piece installation for extra fast, safe, and clean connection to appliances.
